This is the largest fan motor in our Doosan group, and the machines it serves run in the conditions that kill fan circuits: haul roads, quarry faces and topsoil stripping, where the radiator is working against airborne dust for ten hours a day. The 400702-00150A carries the fan on 70 and 77 tonne Doosan equipment, and it is built accordingly, with a heavier housing and a machined joint ring between the dome cover and the body that the smaller units do not carry.<\/p>\n

Read the last row carefully. Both numbers appear against DX700 machines in supplier catalogues, which is why we ask for a photograph of your old unit rather than a model name. The DX700 carriages differ by market and build year, and a DX700 in one yard is not the same specification as a DX700 in another. Cast A and B markings: the detail that decides the job<\/h2>\n

On the base port block of this motor, two of the connections are marked with the cast letters A and B. Those identify the two work ports of a bi-directional unit. Swap them and the fan turns the wrong way, which on a machine with a reverse-clean routine means two things at once: the fan pushes air in the wrong direction through the core when the operator selects clean, and the case drain may end up connected to a port that sees pressure. Housing and shaft will still bolt up. That is what makes it an easy and expensive mistake.<\/p>\n

Keep the case drain running to tank unrestricted. Bosch Rexroth sets the case drain ceiling for axial piston units in the 18 to 45 size band at 2 bar absolute, and exceeding it is a standard route to a weeping shaft seal inside a few hundred hours. Fitment practice on these machines is: match A to A and B to B by hose position rather than by colour, photograph the original routing before anything comes off, and change the filter element while the circuit is open.<\/p>\n

Reverse cleaning and why it earns its keep<\/h2>\n

Hydraulic fan drives are not fitted on large excavators to save weight. Caterpillar’s description of the arrangement on its own machines is to the point: the hydraulic fan cools the engine on demand to help reduce fuel consumption, and a reverse function lets the operator clean the cores. Danfoss builds dedicated reversible fan drive motors with an integrated shift valve for the same purpose. If reverse has stopped working on a machine whose fan still runs forwards, test the shift signal and the valve before you condemn the motor.
