Two pumps, one machine, and a very different diagnosis. On a -15 series D61 the main pump drives the blade and the ripper, while the fan pump only manages cooling. Owners confuse them because both are variable displacement piston units mounted in the same stack, and both fail in ways that produce heat.
Applicability
Komatsu D61EX-15, D61EX-15E0 and D61PX-15E0, listed in trade parts data as the main pump for those machines. Komatsu’s online catalogue does not return a citable page for this number, so the item name is trade-established. No displacement or pressure figure is published for it, and we do not quote one.
Telling the two faults apart
- Main pump worn: blade and ripper slow, cycle times lengthen, and the machine loses pushing performance. Oil temperature rises as bypassed flow heats the circuit.
- Fan pump worn: functions feel normal, and the only symptom is temperature, worst at low idle on a hot day.
- Both can be true, and on a machine that has run hot for a season the main pump usually carries the debris that caused it.

Fitting and ordering
Match shaft spline, pilot, flange, port positions and control orientation against the removed pump. Prime with clean oil before cranking, change the return filter element, clear the suction strainer, keep the case drain unrestricted to tank, and target ISO 4406 18/16/13. Minimum order one piece.
