الوصف
Our incoming parts sheet listed this item as 165-6767 plus 0R-7949, as though two pumps were involved. They are not. 0R-7949 is the Caterpillar remanufactured exchange reference for the same pump, and the pair is one part number for a new unit and one for the exchange unit.
What the catalogue says
Cat lists 165-6767 as PUMP GP-2PS, and the parts book records PUMP GROUP-PISTON on the D350E II inside the group named for steering and brake. The 2PS suffix is Cat’s way of saying two piston sections: one tandem body doing double duty on two circuits, which is why a fault on this pump can show up as heavy steering, weak brake accumulation, or both.
Applicability
CAT D350E Series II from prefix 2XW 00001, D400E Series II at 8PS 00001, and the D400E Series II ejector truck at APF 00001, all on the Cat 3406E engine. The current-generation D350 and D400 are different machines on different engines with different pump groups, so do not carry this number across generations.
What not to cross
Supplier listings bundle 165-6767 with 161-6742, 167-0994 and 167-1153. 167-0994 is a steering piston pump for other machines and the others are separate items; none is a substitute. One Chinese price sheet also prints this number inside a fan drive table, which is where the fan idea came from, and it is wrong: the articulated truck fan circuit on these models is fed from the steering and brake gear pump group, not from this piston pump.
Failure signs
- Steering heavy at idle that improves with engine rpm: the steering section is losing flow.
- Brake accumulation pressure dropping and the warning lamp coming on under load: test the brake section output before replacing accumulators.
- Noise from the pump bay: cavitation. Check the suction line and tank filter.
- Oil at the shaft: case drain back-pressure, then the coupling.
The compensator tests are in our regulator diagnosis and adjustment guide, and the comparison method in the pump buyer’s and specification guide.
Fitting and ordering
Match shaft spline, pilot, flange, both port blocks and rotation against the removed pump, and note which section feeds which line before disconnecting anything. Prime the casing with clean oil before cranking. Change the return filter element and clear the suction strainer, targeting ISO 4406 18/16/13. Keep the case drain unrestricted to tank. On a truck with a brake circuit involved, confirm accumulator charge and warning-lamp behaviour before it returns to the haul road.
Minimum order one piece. New aftermarket units carry a three to six month warranty as stated on your proforma invoice. Bench tested, photographed against your order before the wooden case closes, delivery 5 to 8 working days from payment subject to stock. The range sits under CAT hydraulic pump.
