বর্ণনা
Cat’s parts book names the circuit this gear pump serves in the item name itself: PUMP GROUP-GEAR -IMPLEMENT, TRANSMISSION. That is worth reading carefully, because the listings circulating for this part describe it four different ways, and three of them are wrong.
What it is, and what it is not
6E-3524 is an external gear pump, single section, fixed displacement, and it is one section of a multi-section group catalogued as 2V-6124. That means on some machines the pump you remove is a stack, and 6E-3524 is one element within it rather than the whole assembly.
It is not an engine lubrication oil pump, which one supplier markets it as. It is not a steering gear pump either; 1U-1779 fills that role on the 980C and 980F, and crossing the two gives you the wrong pump for the wrong circuit. It is not a fan pump; nothing in Cat’s wording connects it to the cooling circuit.
Applicability
CAT 980C, 980F from prefix 8CJ 00001 on the 3406, and 980F II at 4RN 00001 on the 3406C, plus the R1700 II and R1700G underground loaders. Engine data for the part covers the 3406, 3406B, 3406C and C11 families. On the R1700G there is a genuine conflict in the sources we could check, with one parts index showing a C15 and specification pages showing a C11 ACERT, so we do not publish a rating for that machine. Confirm the engine model by PIN.
A number in Cat’s title you should not repeat blindly
Cat’s catalogue title for this part carries a displacement string of 175.99Cc. Read as cm3 per revolution that is implausible for a single gear section of this size, and it is almost certainly a converted imperial attribute sitting in Cat’s own part data. We print Cat’s string with the attribute label rather than presenting it as a metric specification, and we do not build a substitution argument on it.
Failure signs on a gear pump
- Functions slow as the oil heats: internal leakage across the gear tips and side plates.
- Noise and a foamy reservoir: cavitation, check the suction line and strainer.
- Oil at the shaft seal: back-pressure, misalignment or an over-tightened coupling.
Our seal kit rebuild checklist covers what a rebuild should include and drive gear inspection covers the input side.
Fitting and ordering
Count the sections on your old pump before ordering, since the stack and the single section are different parts. Match shaft spline, flange, port positions and rotation, prime with clean oil before cranking, change the return filter element, and target ISO 4406 18/16/13 for the piston components sharing the circuit.
Minimum order one piece. New aftermarket units carry a three to six month warranty as stated on your proforma invoice. Bench checked, photographed against your order before the wooden case closes, delivery 5 to 8 working days from payment subject to stock. The range sits under CAT hydraulic pump.
