विवरण

A fan motor that survived an engine change is a useful thing to understand, because it explains why one number covers machines two generations apart and why the trade keeps getting its fitment lists wrong.

What Caterpillar states

200-3252 is listed as MOTOR GP, in the fixed displacement motor category, with the parts book item name MOTOR GP-PISTON and an alternate group string of MOTOR GP-PS-F-43. Cat’s own PS-F coding marks a piston-slipper-fixed unit, so the construction is settled. The number 43 in that string is Cat’s own size code for this frame. The remanufactured cross-reference is 10R-6266.

Two engine families, one motor

Caterpillar’s applicability data attaches 200-3252 to two distinct groups of machines:

  • 385B and 385B L, prefixes CLS, BKF, ANS, MYA and RCD, powered by the 3456 engine, plus the 5090B at CLD and SJY, also 3456.
  • 385C, 385C L, 385C FS, 385C material handler and 385C L mobile hydraulic power unit, prefixes KBC, MNZ, KGB, JCM, T2E, EDA, MMA, T2F, GLT, EAM, WAW and M3W, powered by the सी18, plus 390D and 390D L at KCZ, WAG, WBT and WAP, also C18.

Between those two groups the engine changed completely, from a mechanically injected 3456 to an electronic C18 ACERT, and the fan motor stayed the same. That is not an anomaly. A fan motor is a bolt-on hydraulic component sized to the cooler pack and the fan hub, and neither of those changed enough to force a new part number. What did change across that boundary is the pump driving it and the control logic commanding it, which is why listings that bundle this number with a fan pump for a 385B are usually wrong about the pump even when they are right about the motor.

About the note in our own source data

The internal parts list for this item carried a shorthand of 15T. We could not find that designation in Caterpillar’s data or anywhere else, and Cat’s own size code for this motor is 43, not 15. It may have been intended as a shaft tooth or spline count by whoever wrote it, but nothing documents it, so it is not on this page. If your purchase order or your customer’s enquiry quotes 15T, send us a photograph of the shaft end and we will measure the spline count against it rather than repeat an unexplained code.

Machine context

The 385C L is a machine of roughly 84,000 kg with a Cat C18 ACERT rated at 530 hp gross and 513 hp net at 1,800 rpm, hydraulic pump flow of about 258.9 gal/min, relief pressure of 4,640 psi in the equipment circuit with 5,075 psi in heavy lift, and a cooling system holding 26.7 gal. The 390D L is about 86,000 kg at 523 hp net with the same hydraulic architecture. The older 385B on the 3456 engine sits in the same size class, and we could not find a reliable published specification for it; the OEM spec mirror pages we checked mix 385B and 385C data together, so we do not quote them.

Diagnosing this motor

Fixed displacement means no regulator, no solenoid and nothing to adjust. There is one wear mechanism worth measuring and one installation error that kills units early. The wear mechanism is internal leakage at the slipper and valve plate interface, which shows as flow arriving but the fan not reaching speed, with the difference appearing as hydraulic oil temperature. The installation error is case drain back-pressure, which finishes the shaft seal within a few hundred hours. Our hydraulic fan motor diagnosis guide covers both tests, and the check valve article covers the case where the machine still runs hot after the motor has been replaced.

Fitting

Flush the circuit if the removed unit produced debris and change the return filter element. Prime the casing with clean oil before cranking. Route the case drain to tank with no restriction. Match shaft form, flange and port orientation against the old motor, and confirm rotation with the fan restrained before the guard goes back. Target cleanliness around ISO 4406 18/16/13, the class Bosch Rexroth guidance gives for slipper piston units in mobile service.

Terms

Minimum order one piece. New aftermarket units carry a three to six month warranty as stated on your proforma invoice. Bench tested, photographed against your order before the wooden case closes, delivery 5 to 8 working days from payment subject to stock. The 345C fan pump is on our 259-0814 page, and the full range sits under Caterpillar hydraulic fan motor.
