Most of this batch could be pinned to a circuit by Caterpillar’s own wording. This one cannot, and the honest page is more useful to a buyer than a confident guess.
What is established
Cat lists 9T-6857 as PUMP, and the parts book records PUMP GP-PISTON for the 416 and 428 backhoe loaders, with the reman reference 0R-4218. Piston construction is therefore settled. What is not settled is which circuit: Cat’s title and item name carry no IMPLEMENT, STEERING, PILOT or FAN modifier for this number, and we found no parts-book page that assigns it.
Applicability
CAT 416 backhoe loader at prefixes 5PC 00001 to 06191 and 5PC 06192 to 10761, and Series II from 5PC 10762; CAT 428 at 6TC 00001 to 02693, 6TC 02694 to 06563, and Series II from 6TC 06564. Engines are the 4.236 and T4.236 diesel units, the naturally aspirated and turbocharged variants of the 3304 family.
Two supplier errors worth naming
The fan label. Several Indonesian and Chinese listings call 9T-6857 a fan pump, and one sells it as a wheel loader 924G part. Neither is supported by Cat’s data, and the same price sheets interleave pump and fan motor rows without separators, which is how these labels spread. It is a backhoe loader piston pump.
The 4T-6895 cross. Our incoming data paired 4T-6895 with this number. In the 416 parts book the neighbouring item is 4T-6896 PUMP GP-METERING, a metering unit that sits beside the main drive shaft group and the hydraulic steering group. A metering assembly is not a substitute for a piston pump, so 4T-6895 has been removed from this listing.
How to buy it correctly
Because the circuit is not stated by Cat, the safe route is evidence rather than interpretation. Send three things: a photograph of the plate on your old pump, the machine serial number including prefix, and a photograph of how the pump is plumbed in place, showing which line goes where. We match those against the parts catalogue for your serial range and quote the number your machine actually carries. If the answer turns out to be a different part, we will tell you before you pay rather than ship a plausible-looking unit.
Fitting checks that apply whatever the circuit
Match shaft spline, pilot, flange, port positions and rotation against the removed pump. Prime the casing with clean oil before cranking. Change the return filter element and clear the suction strainer, targeting ISO 4406 18/16/13. Keep the case drain unrestricted to tank.
