Two numbers appear on the box, and only one of them is a Caterpillar part number. Getting that straight saves a workshop from quoting the wrong reference into their own system and losing traceability on the part.
What Caterpillar lists
265-4925 is catalogued as a Gear Motor, and the parts book item name is more specific still: MOTOR GP-GEAR -HYDRAULIC FAN, listed under the hydraulic system section of the 938H and recorded as part of the radiator and fan group. So the function is not an inference from a supplier title. Caterpillar’s own literature says this gear motor drives the cooling fan.
What 7029210020 is
The unit in our photographs carries a maker plate reading PT. NO. 7029210020, serial 0001, dated 2025.09.28, with the housing cast 8002-902-OEM. That is the producing manufacturer’s own part reference, the number they use internally and the number that appears on Chinese marketplaces alongside the Cat number. It is useful for tracing which factory built a unit and for ordering a seal kit from that maker. It is not a Caterpillar cross-reference, and it should not be entered into your system as though it were equivalent to 265-4925.

Aplicabilidade
CAT 938H wheel loader and IT38H integrated toolcarrier, parts literature covering machine prefix MJC from 00001 with the Cat C6.6 engine. The 938H is a smaller machine than the 980H, and the difference matters here: the 938H uses a engrenagem fan motor, while the 980H uses a pistões fan motor, 255-6805. Same job, different construction, and no interchangeability between them.
Why gear fan motors get blamed unfairly
A gear motor is simple: two meshing gears, a housing, a seal. It has no regulator, no valve plate, no slipper interface. When it under-performs, the cause is almost always wear from contamination or heat, or a shaft seal that has been pushed out by case drain back-pressure. That means the diagnosis is short and the repair is usually not just the motor.
- Clean the cooling cores and re-check temperatures. On a 938H working in demolition or topsoil this resolves a large share of complaints without any parts.
- Measure flow at the motor ports. Short supply points at the fan pump, and the 938H pump is a separate part from this motor.
- Check the case drain line for a kink or a restriction. Gear motors tolerate less back-pressure than people assume, and the seal is the first thing to pay for it.
- Sample the oil. Grit in the sample means the whole circuit needs flushing, and a replacement fitted into dirty oil will fail inside the warranty period.

Instalação
Match shaft form, flange bolt pattern and port thread sizes against the removed motor. Prime before cranking. Fit a new return filter element and clear the suction strainer, holding cleanliness around ISO 4406 18/16/13 as the working target for piston components sharing the circuit. Confirm rotation direction with the fan restrained, then prove full fan speed under thermal load.
