Komatsu’s own catalogue entry for 708-1S-00460 gives the item name Pump Assembly and a width of 303.7 mm, and trade parts data places it on the -16 generation D65 in the cooling fan position. The dimension is not decoration: on these dozers the pump shares a mounting gallery with the rest of the hydraulic stack, and a substitute that is a few millimetres wider will not clear the guard.

Komatsu D65EX-16, D65PX-16 and D65WX-16. The -16 designation matters as much as the model letters: the -15 generation uses a different fan pump, listed as 708-1S-00241, and the two are not drop-in substitutes for each other. Komatsu publishes no displacement, pressure or flow figure for 708-1S-00460, so none is quoted here.
What changes between -15 and -16
Komatsu moved the -16 series to a revised emissions and hydraulic package, and the cooling circuit was re-specified with it. In practice this produces one recurring ordering error: a workshop with a mixed fleet quotes the model letters (D65EX) and omits the series, and the pump arrives with the wrong shaft or the wrong control port layout. The number cast on your old pump settles it in seconds, which is why we ask for a photograph before invoicing rather than after.
Diagnosis on a -16 dozer
- Clean the cores and re-measure. Dozers in topsoil or clay plug the pack faster than components wear.
- Measure pump output pressure and flow with the oil at working temperature.
- Check the fan motor case drain before condemning either unit.
- Confirm the control is being commanded; a fan held at part stroke looks identical to a worn pump.

Match shaft spline, pilot diameter, flange, port positions and control orientation against the removed pump. Prime the casing with clean oil before cranking. Change the return filter element and clear the suction strainer, targeting ISO 4406 18/16/13. Keep the case drain unrestricted to tank. Prove full fan speed under load and record coolant and hydraulic oil temperature.
