On a 700 to 900 tonne mining excavator the cooling package is a structure, not an accessory, and the fan pump that meters airflow is expected to work at maximum displacement for most of a shift, in oil that runs hot, behind a core face that never fully cleans. This is the part of the catalogue where an incorrect assumption costs the most.
Applicability and evidence
Trade listings and dealer salvage records attach 708-1W-00901 to the Komatsu PC800-8 in the fan pump position. Komatsu’s own online parts catalogue returns nothing for the number, so we cannot publish a manufacturer item name for it, and the 708-1W prefix is consistent with the pump group that includes other confirmed large-machine fan pumps. What we can state is the pattern: within Komatsu’s 708 hydraulic numbering, 1x items are pumps and 7x items are motors, and the fan motor on the PC800-8 family is the 708-7W item listed on its own page.
Before you order, run this checklist
- Photograph the number cast on the old pump. This outranks every compatibility table.
- Send the machine serial prefix. On mining machines, build specifications differ between units of the same model badge more than on any other class of equipment.
- Confirm the fan motor case drain condition. A motor shedding material will destroy a replacement pump within weeks.
- Check the core pack and the cleaning system. If the machine has been running hot, the pump is rarely the only answer.
- Ask for the photographs of the unit we are about to ship, before it is packed, not after.

Match shaft spline, pilot, flange, port positions and control orientation against the removed pump. Prime the casing with clean oil before cranking. Change the return filter element and clear the suction strainer, targeting ISO 4406 18/16/13. Keep the case drain unrestricted to tank. Prove the fan reaches full speed under load and record coolant and hydraulic oil temperature as a baseline.
