An 18 cc pump looks like an inconsequential part on a machine this size, which is exactly why it gets diagnosed last and replaced first. On the E, F and G series Volvo loaders this item sits in the low-pressure side of the system, and when it fades the symptoms look like something much bigger has failed.

What a small supply pump does when it fades- Steering effort increases, particularly at low engine speed, because the priority flow that the small pump supports is no longer adequate.
- The machine works slowly rather than not at all, which points people at the main pump and the relief settings.
- Noise appears at the main pump inlet as it begins to starve, and the main pump then wears in the way starvation always causes.
- Oil heats faster than expected with clean cores, because bypassed flow is doing no useful work.
Test the cheap things first: oil level, suction restriction, filter condition, then measure the small pump’s output before touching the main pump. Montaje
Match shaft form, pilot, flange, port positions and rotation direction against the removed pump. Gear and small supply pumps are direction-sensitive, and a reversed unit starves itself from the first revolution. Prime with clean oil before cranking, change the return filter element, clear the suction strainer, and keep the case drain unrestricted to tank. Target ISO 4406 18/16/13 for the piston components in the same circuit.
