Diagnosis on a 22 tonne excavator
At this size the cooling pack has little margin in summer, and the fan circuit is the first thing an operator blames and the last thing a workshop measures. Work in order:
- Clean the cores and re-measure coolant and hydraulic oil temperature at low and high idle under load.
- Confirm the fan actually accelerates when demand rises. If it does not, the fault may be the command, not the pump.
- Measure outlet flow and pressure at working temperature.
- Check the suction strainer and the oil level, since starvation mimics wear.
- Inspect the fan motor case drain before condemning either unit.

Match shaft form, pilot, flange, port positions and rotation direction against the removed pump. Prime the casing with clean oil before cranking, change the return filter element, keep the case drain unrestricted to tank, and target ISO 4406 18/16/13 for the piston components sharing the circuit.
