Three part numbers circulate for the same job on the same family of machines, and the trade sells them as if they were one part. Some are not wrong about the function; they are wrong about the certainty. This page publishes all three with the evidence level attached to each, because a workshop that orders on a compatibility table can end up holding a double pump where the machine left the factory with a single one.
What each number is, and how well we know

Suppliers state that 14561971 supersedes 14530502. That claim is a supplier cross-reference, not a Volvo document, and we do not print it as fact. What we do print is the practical rule: order against the number on your pump and your serial prefix, and we will confirm the rest.
Why single and double are not interchangeable
A double pump adds a second pumping section, usually for pilot or auxiliary supply, on the same shaft and in the same mounting. If your machine’s pilot supply came from that second section, removing the assembly and fitting a single pump leaves you with no pilot pressure and a machine that will not respond to the pilot levers. Conversely, fitting a double pump where the machine expects a single one can leave an unused port open to tank, which is an oil leak dressed up as a repair.
Diagnosis and fitting
- Count the sections and photograph the port block on the old pump before ordering.
- Clean the cores and re-measure temperatures at low and high idle.
- Measure outlet flow and pressure at working temperature; gear pumps show wear as a loss that grows with heat.
- Check the suction strainer and the tank filter, since starvation mimics wear.
- Prime the new pump with clean oil before cranking, change the return filter element, confirm rotation direction, and target ISO 4406 18/16/13.
