Description
A 70 tonne class Volvo excavator rejects a great deal of heat through its cooling pack, and the fan motor is the component that converts hydraulic flow into airflow on a machine that is expected to work a full shift without a cool-down period. This is that component on the EC700B and EC700C.
Applicability and what we do not claim
Volvo EC700B and EC700C excavators, with the item name Motor recorded in Volvo’s parts catalogue. Trade listings extend 14531612 across a much wider range of EC models, from mid-size C-series machines upward. We publish the EC700 application as the one supported by catalogue evidence and treat the wider list as unconfirmed, because a fan motor that fits the flange may still differ in displacement and control arrangement, and on a cooling circuit those differences are the whole point.
The fan pump that feeds it
On these machines the fan drive pump is a separate item, and the two are routinely confused because both are hydraulic, both sit behind the radiator, and both produce a hot engine when they wear. The split is simple to test: measure flow at the motor ports. If flow is short, the pump is the problem. If flow is correct and the fan still lags with a heavy case drain, the motor is. Fitting a fan motor on a large excavator
- Photograph the hose routing before stripping. Port identity matters on a circuit that may reverse.
- Sample the oil. On a machine this size, a motor that has shed material has already circulated it through the cooler and the main pumps.
- Flush and change the return filter element before the new motor goes in.
- Prime the casing with clean oil before cranking, and keep the case drain unrestricted to tank.
- Target ISO 4406 18/16/13 or better for the piston components in the circuit, then prove full fan speed and reverse function under load.
