On a 700 to 900 tonne mining excavator there is no such thing as a small hydraulic failure. A pump that loses a few percent of volumetric efficiency does not announce itself; it shows up as a slightly longer swing cycle, then a hotter oil tank, then a machine that cannot hold its duty cycle. By the time anyone suspects the pump, the debris it has produced is already in the rest of the circuit.

Komatsu PC800-8 class machines, listed in trade parts data as a 708-1W group hydraulic pump. The 708-1x prefix is consistent with Komatsu’s pump group and the 708-7x prefix with its motor group, an observation that held across every manufacturer-published item name we checked, but Komatsu’s own catalogue does not return a page for this specific number. We therefore publish the type as trade-established, name no circuit we cannot support, and quote against the plate on your machine.
What to check before ordering a pump on a mining machine
- Pull an oil sample and read the particle count. Contamination level decides whether a pump replacement will survive at all.
- Measure pressure and flow on the suspect circuit at working temperature, and compare against the machine’s specification rather than against another machine of the same badge.
- Inspect the return filter element and the suction strainer for the material the old pump shed.
- Check the case drain routing. Casing back-pressure is the most common cause of a shaft seal failure that gets blamed on a bad pump.

Match shaft spline, pilot, flange, port positions and control orientation against the removed pump. Prime the casing with clean oil before cranking. Change the return filter element, flush if debris is present, keep the case drain unrestricted to tank, and target ISO 4406 18/16/13 or better for the piston components in the circuit.
