Volvo lists this assembly under several names in the trade: power take-off, PTO group, pump coupling, bearing housing. They all describe the same job, which is to carry engine torque into the hydraulic pump train without letting the pumps run off-centre or lose drive under load. It is a mechanical part, and it is the part that turns a single pump failure into a recurring one.

Why this part ruins pumps
- Worn bearing or bushing. The pump shaft runs slightly off-axis, the couplings wear, and the pump fails early. The new pump does the same thing, and the housing never gets inspected.
- Worn drive gear or coupling. Torque is not transmitted cleanly, so the pump cannot reach full flow under load. Pressure tests look odd rather than clearly failed.
- Metal generation. The housing makes its own debris and feeds it directly into the pump inlet, which is how a second pump dies.
- Perdita esterna at the joint, commonly blamed on the pump shaft seal.

Montaggio
Check gear backlash and bearing play before installation, fill the housing with clean oil, engage the pump splines without forcing them, and confirm the mating surfaces are free of scoring. Flush the circuit and change the filter elements, since the debris that damaged the previous pump is still circulating. Target ISO 4406 18/16/13 or better.
